I want to put some new parts in my computer. My computer is pretty new, but I want to add a few things. If I want to put a new processor in my computer, is it necessary to put a new motherboard in it? I have an AMD 64 X2 3800+ 2.0 Ghz processor in it now.
How important is a new motherboard in a computer?
If you're running the Athalon 64 X2 then your motherboard is pretty current. It has a CPU socket called AM2. What you need to do is find a better processor that has that same socket, i.e. another Athalon 64 X2 with bigger number would be your best bet.
Reply:if you have that now you should be ok. double check your mb can support your new processor.. and that it can support more then 2 gig of memory.. make sure it cna do SATA (for your newer HD's) if it did SATA RAID that would be even better. make sure it supports EIDE cause the new Video cards are swinging that way....

Why does my computer monitor show some text lighty and others full black?
Is it my video card not having enough brain power or perhaps the video card cannot display widescreen 3000 to 1 contrast ratio? Is it Windows Vista , I have heard many people having problems with Vista. The resolution of the computer matches the resolution of the monitor so I don't know what to do now. I have also checked the drivers.
Why does my computer monitor show some text lighty and others full black?
The video coming out of the card has an infinite contrast ratio. It is LCD panels that are limited in how dark the black is.
I am assuming that you have a LCD monitor.
Make sure your desktop resolution is set to the native resolution of the monitor. Make sure the refresh rate is set to 60 Hz.
Open up Notepad and fill the screen with H characters. Then press the Auto Setup button on the monitor.
The other place to check is the font smoothing. Try turning this off and repeating the auto set up.
Reply:it could actually be your gamma is turned up too high. That was a problem with mine right out of the box. Just go to the menu on the monitor and tune it to what you want. If that doesnt work then I would go to the video card settings, make sure you are running at 75mHz refresh rate, and that it is set up for standard wide screen settings.
Reply:Could it be that the lightly colored text are menu options that are not currently available.
For example: The Edit menu in a word processor will show the COPY command in light colored text if there is nothing selected on the word processor and PASTE will appear grayed out until something has been copied.
That's my guess!
Reply:Do u have a LCD monitor?
anyway, change ur resolution to the max that ur monitor can support, and then see whether ur problem is solved or not

Can a cellular phone affect a computer if it is left near it?
Can a cellular phone affect a computer if it is left near it? Can it ruin the monitor? Can it ruin the motherboard? When I use my cell phone, it causes interference with radios, speakers, and televisions. It seems it could ruin my computer.
Can a cellular phone affect a computer if it is left near it?
Nope. It is just fine to keep your cell close to your computer. Don't worry about it. It won't hurt a thing.
Reply:i think the two frequencies can mess computers up. whenever my computer is left near my cellphone, it sometimes will make a funny noise. i hear it more often with stereo systems. call your wireless network and ask questions if you feel the need to.
Reply:It will cause interference, but it will not ruin it. My cell phone does the same thing to my monitor and my speakers. My monitor gets lines across it, and my speakers make odd noises. It's nothing to worry about.
Reply:No impossible. at most the speakers might pick up some feedback or noise. but it can't damage anything.... other than your brain....

How did the computer geeks at Fortune 500 companies get through their interviews?
My conception of them is that they are introverted and lack people skills, but please correct me on this.
Do you believe that resumes get you the interviews and interviews get you the job?
By what standard are computer geeks and techies admitted into large companies making hefty salaries?
Is it based on the behavioral interview or based on something completely different?
How did the computer geeks at Fortune 500 companies get through their interviews?
Microsoft never hires people on permanent - everyone must start out as a 'temp' which involves minimal interviewing. Sometimes the employees are temps for years prior to being hired on permanently - therefore proving themselves by performance not social skills.
Reply:Andre, foremost, your assumption is flawed.
"Computer geeks" no longer exist, at least, not in the light you put them. Given today's work environment, many people with technical aptitude have pursued technology oriented careers who might have otherwise pursued different fields. This is largely due to the stability of computer science type positions in the workforce and it's growing demand. As such, a significant portion of large companies "geeks" are not really geeks at all. Rather, they are educated individuals that possess more than merely technical skills.
Most companies today prefer well rounded individuals doing their "geek" work since those geeks have to be able to convey information to non-geeks. In addition, those same companies are making their geeks more customer facing and therefore require them to posses a certain level of communication ability as well as business acumen.
Granted, there are still those whom are extremely introverted and can't communicate if their life depended upon it. However, tech jobs are increasingly requiring a broader skill set.
Yes, I'm a software engineer and one of my greatest attributes is my ability to communicate with any audience, at least so I'm told.
Reply:There is a company who for a fee will have a person learn about you and you can send that confident, good looking person on your interview. When you get the job, just act like it was you all along. The interviewer will be to embarssed to actually say "that's not the person I hired." Everybody would think he is crazy.
Reply:In some parts i do but on the other hand you as a person has to make a impression also

How can I use the virus and spyware scan software without shuting down the computer?
I have a Toshiba laptop. I know my computer have been in infected by some virus and spyware cookies. I used to use many different software to scan and stop the infection in my computer, but unsuccessful. Everytime I scan my computer, after 5 or 10 minutes, my computer is automatic shut down. I don't know why. I think the reason is because when I scan to a specific virus or spyware which is important for running other programs, the scanning software affects to them, so they cause the shutting down of my computer. Am I right? If so, could you help me to solve this problem, and show me another way to scan, kill and stop virus and spyware without cause shutting down computer? Do you know any free software I can use?
How can I use the virus and spyware scan software without shuting down the computer?
Your PC is shutting off, because you have two or more Anti-virus programs installed and they are not compatible.
You need
1 Ad-Aware
2Anti-virus
and a good firewall
Reply:There's a good list of free virus/spyware removal tools here, also has some good info on how to avoid stuff like this.http://www.basicspywaretips.com/getridof...
Reply:Free software that I like: "Spybot-Search %26amp; Destroy", "Adaware or Adware", "Avg" anti-virus.
You may be correct in your assumptions. Viruses and such, can indeed shutdown your computer. This may sound silly to ask, but are you using more than one software programme, at a time. I have encountered the computer shutting down while using 2 detectors at a time.
Reply:Use only one antivirus at a time. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/ hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful

What cable should I used to connect my computer to a cable modem?
I use a router now. I want to connect my computer to my cable modem directly. I used the cable that connect my modem to router and another cable connected my computer to the router, but they both didn't work. What cable should I used to connect my computer to a cable modem?
What cable should I used to connect my computer to a cable modem?
an ethernet cable you can buy them from computer stores they look like a phone line but the conection is larger
Reply:Its a CAT-5 cable with RJ45 connectors.
It should go Cable Internet %26gt; Modem %26gt; Router WAN %26gt; Then connect your PCs to the Router LAN
Then configure your router with the instructions given. Very simple.
Reply:a cable with an ethernet connection on each end.
Reply:You should be using a standard Cat5 Ethernet cable between the router and the cable modem. However, there is one specific port on your router that the cable must be attached to. Usually that port will be marked in some way. It will have "uplink" printed above it, be a different color, be slightly separated from the others, etc. Unfortunately it is different for every brand and model. Check the documention (r website) for the router and it will tell you which port you have to use.
Reply:The problem isn't the cable.
The problem is that the cable modem is expecting the MAC address of the router instead of the MAC address of the network card in your computer.
You need to turn-off the cable modem and computer for about 5 minutes, then turn-on the cable modem and let all the lights turn-on as usual, then turn on the PC.
Once you do that, you /should/ be able to use the internet.
The reason that you have to do this is because you are paying for only 1 IP address with your cable modem service and the cable company assigns IP address for each MAC address. Since the router has already taken the only IP address, you have to power-off the modem to make it "forget" about the MAC address of the router, then when you turn the cable modem back on, it will search for a new MAC address to assign an IP address to.
Good Luck,
